Avanika Narayan Palo Alto Senior High School - Palo Alto, Ca Acknowledgments My sincere and heartfelt thanks to Dr. Euan Ashley for giving me the opportunity to perform research at the Falk Cardiovascular Center in Stanford University. I thank him for providing insight and direction to my research interests. I am grateful to Daryl Waggott, my primary mentor, who has been a constant pillar of support throughout this incredible experience. Daryl was always eager and […]

Customized Chemotherapy Regime Based on Blood Vessels with Different Number of Stenosis

Yifan Wang 1, Will Cao 2 1 Indian Springs School, 190 Woodward Drive, Indian Springs, AL 35124, USA E-mail: yifan.wang@indiansprings.org 2 Department of Biomedical Engineering, Duke University, Durham, NC 27705, USA Email: yangxiaolu.cao@duke.edu Abstract Chemotherapy has been an effective approach to treat cancer; however, chemotherapy's effectiveness could be influenced by many unknown and often neglected factors. In this project, we build mathematical models in MATLAB to explain what impact will blood vessel with stenosis […]

Role of Telomeres in Aging

HoJun Kweon* and HyoJu Kweon Daegu International School, 101-dong 2201-ho, 10, Palgong-ro 53-gil, Dong-gu, Daegu, Republic of Korea Jinkyoung (May) Lee Yongsan International School of Seoul, San 10-213, Hannam 2 dong, Yongsan-ku, Seoul, Republic of Korea Abstract At the ends of eukaryotic chromosomes are telomeres, which play a central role in the protection of genetic data and the enabling of cell division. Telomeres modify the cellular response to growth and stress based on various hereditary […]

Facilitating Biodigester Biogas Production Using a Rumination Model of Bos taurus

Abstract In order to develop resource and time efficient methods of biogas production as an energy source, the biodigestion procedure physically and chemically modified the biodigestion process to mimic the rumination process of Bos taurus. The experimental protocol used manure slurry and the independent variables of a varying mixing times and digestive enzymes to produce biogases. The results demonstrated significant increases in biogas production with both mixing time variation and enzyme additives to manure slurry. […]
